Holidays!!!

December was a lot of fun.  We just catered 4 or 5 parties, which is a nice amount for Dec.  Hate devoting the entire month to business.  Made a wedding cake and treats for Jenna's new sister in law on the 22nd.  So after that was done, we got into chill zone and haven't left.  Very nice to be able to relax.

My next goal is figuring out now to market something we make, online.  Not sure how to do that, but we'll never make any money living in Delta with it's limited customer base.

Any ideas???

Catching up!!

Yes, like all of you, I've been busy.  Wouldn't know what to do if it wasn't that way.  But what a great time of year it is now.  Christmas parties and planning and shopping.  With a few cakes thrown in as well.  Catered a party for the Care Center Thursday night, went well.  We're getting this down to a system now.  All that is required is that everyone agrees to work their little butts off.  Then everything goes well  :)
A couple of parties to cater next week and a wedding cake for the 22nd.  Will be fun.  With Christmas shopping thrown in, working each day and thinking about building our new home, there is no time to get in trouble!!  And that is a good thing.  I'm posting a few more recent photos.
Call us if we can help you out with your parties, cakes, goodies etc.

Good stuff, bad stuff

Tucker's 3rd b-day was such a good time.  They held it in their  backyard and the fall weather was perfect!  Soup, rolls, chips and dips.  And speaking of dips, it was the cutest thing you ever heard when he was singing happy birthday to Me.  He was so adorable, as were the rest of the kids there.  Swayze, Starr, Kell an Callie.

The  bad stuff is I stupidly purchased a "new" "5 quart" kitchen aid mixer on KSL Classifieds that is neither new or 5 quart.  I am so mad!!! I've e-mailed him I want my money back and I'm returning it, caked on food on the bottom and all...........................I am so dumb to take people for their word!!

More later to see if I get results or have to keep it.  The motor sounds worse than the one I've had for 30 years.

Craft Fair

I've decided we'll have a booth at the annual fall craft fair.  That will be fun.  We've done it over the years, but this year, I'm going to approach it differently.  I've noticed that most of us don't have a lot of money to spend.  So we'll just offer small things for sale for .50 or a dollar.  Kind of like offering samples of what we do.  Individual cookies, cupcakes, dipped bon-bons, maybe dipped strawberries, and caramel dipped marshmellows.  We'll charge a little more for our caramel/chocolate dipped pretzels and maybe small plates of cookies.  Mandi makes good homemade almond joys and we'll have some small containers of fudge.  But mosty it will be advertising for the upcoming holiday season.
I have new brochures and business cards coming, will be a good place to hand those out.
Can't wait!!

Gearing up to make two wedding cakes

Next weekend will be busy, I'm trying to finalize my plans for the two wedding cakes and food for a rehearsal dinner.  Ashley wants a black and white cake, two round layers on a pedestal cake plate.  I'm doing fondant black beads, black fondant scrollwork with round white cake.  It will be filled with Barvarian cream filling.  I've ordered a new rolling mat that should be big enough to roll out the large fondant on.  Can't wait to get in our new kitchen which will have a lot more space.  Sutton wants a three layer square cake, offset, with scroll work, quilting, & beads.  Hers will be topped off with fresh flowers.  The scrolling and beads will be teal color.  Both cakes sound amazing and the photos they have supplied for me to look at are beautiful.  We'll keep you up to date as they progress, and post pictures after receptions.
I was thinking about offering Christmas and Holiday plates.  Cookies, candies, chocolate pretzels, etc.  But I think I'll give us all a break and wait til next year when we don't have to rent kitchen space.
Makes me more relaxed to let that idea go..................................:)

This weekend's menu

The class reunion is going to be fun!  We're decorating with fall colors and they've chosen yummy food.  Here's what they are going to eat:
Shredded slow cooked beef with gravy
Cheesy Potaotes  (just doesn't seem right to call them "funeral potatoes" for a party!)
Pistachio and Chicken with Wild Rice Salads
Rolls & Butter
Homemade Ice Cream cake roll (Chocolate cake, strawberry ice cream with hot fudge topping)
Fruit Punch and Ice Water
Hope they like it, we'll have fun getting it together for them!

Thanks Mandi!

Mandi, my sweet little daughter-in-law, has our blog looking much better.  That's what I like about our company, everyone has special strengths and that helps us get things done.  Grandma Roma is the best cook and Jenna is a great person to get the cakes done.  Mandi is a good thinker and helps us get our ducks in a row, sometimes at the last moment when I just tell her and Jenna to "figure out how to set things up"  or "how are we going to get both these events covered tonight?"  Craig and Dustin work hard moving our stuff, helping out everywhere and they especially love washing dishes!  Mandi's sister Megan helps a lot and we can't forget Starr, Tucker and Swayze who keep us laughing and having a good time.
We have two wedding cakes to make for Oct. 7.  They are both so beautiful and it will be fun to work on them.  A class reunion will keep us busy this Saturday.  We stay busy just about the right amount, seems to me.
E-mail us at jackien01@yahoo.com if you would like a price quote.

( months later

I could have completed a pregnancy and given birth in the time I've been away from this blog. Glad I didn't. But I'm going to try again. I want to use this blog to talk about our catering company, Sisters' Specialties. That's one reason why I've been too busy to write. But I've watched others and been inspired by their entries, so here I go. Trying to figure out where to begin. Any advice is appreciated!
